Taking the first step toward holistic wellness is a beautiful gift to yourself. If you have just booked your first massage or are thinking about doing so, you might wonder what to expect.
To help you get the absolute most out of your treatment and feel completely at ease, here is a simple, stress-free guide on how to prepare for your session at my quiet garden studio in Cork City.
1. Before You Arrive: Simple Preparation
- Hydrate Well: Drink plenty of water throughout the day before your appointment. Massage releases tension and helps the body process metabolic waste, so being well-hydrated makes the treatment much more effective.
- Eat Lightly: Try to avoid eating a heavy meal for about 1 to 2 hours before your massage. It is much easier to fully relax and receive abdominal or full-body work when your body isn’t busy digesting a heavy dinner.
- Wear Comfortable Clothing: Choose loose, comfortable clothes that are easy to change out of. After your session, your body will be deeply relaxed, and you will likely still have some nourishing massage oils on your skin.
- 2. Arriving at the Garden Studio
- Give Yourself Time: Please aim to arrive a few minutes before your scheduled time. This ensures you don’t feel rushed and gives you a moment to leave the busy noise of Cork City behind as you enter the peaceful garden surroundings.
- Health Insurance & Intake: If this is your first visit, we will spend a few minutes chatting about your physical health, stress levels, and what you hope to achieve from the session. If you are registered with Laya Healthcare or Irish Life Health, please let me know so I can ensure you receive the correct receipt for your insurance provider.
2. During Your Massage: Your Comfort is Priority
- Undressing & Draping: You will always be given complete privacy to undress to your level of comfort. During the treatment, you will be covered professionally with soft sheets or towels at all times (a practice called draping). Only the specific part of the body being massaged will be uncovered.
- Communication is Welcome: This is your time. If the room temperature is too warm, if you would prefer different music, or if the pressure of the deep tissue or Lomi Lomi strokes needs to be lighter or deeper, please tell me. Working intuitively means I listen to your body, but your verbal feedback helps me tailor the perfect experience.
- Focus on the Breath: Throughout the session, I incorporate gentle breath awareness. If you find your mind wandering to your daily to-do list, simply focus on taking slow, deep breaths. Exhaling deeply helps your nervous system reset and lets the muscles melt.
3. After Your Treatment: Nurturing the Afterglow
- Take Your Time Getting Up: When the session ends, I will leave the room so you can slowly wake up and get dressed at your own pace. There is absolutely no rush.
- Keep Hydrating: Drink a glass of water immediately after your session (I will have one ready for you!) and continue to drink water for the rest of the day.
- Plan a Relaxing Evening: If possible, avoid scheduling intense workouts or stressful meetings right after your massage. Give your mind and body a few hours to absorb the deep, restorative benefits of the therapy.
